Water Lights
A technically refined special lamp bathes an inconspicuous expanse of water in atmospheric light
Despite an unbelievable wealth of excellent batch-produced lamps available in the market there are demanding projects necessitating tailor-made lighting concepts that could not be optimally implemented with standardised products. It’s a niche where PSLAB is working successfully – a young team from Beirut, consisting of architects, engineers, designers and technicians. Their range of services comprises the conception, development and manufacture of prototypes plus the production and installation of special lamps. In this case the task was to illuminate an expanse of water in the heart of Beirut. It flows around ‚Block 94‘, a public square bordering on a historic town wall. The Machado and Silvetti architects office in charge of the square design had a pleasant lighting solution in mind, featuring single light points in the water. So ‚Waterlilies came into being, an LED lamp that seems to float on the water surface but is actually firmly anchored in the ground. The reflector disc is something special about this lamp; it guides the light and mirrors the sunlight during the day.
