PP seat shell as conference chair
‚I have been inspired by a bird’s nest. You can hardly find anything that is so handy and so intelligently conceived and at the same time so lightweight and protective”, says Japanese designer on his idea underlying ‚RIN‘, an organically shaped multi-purpose chair. But how could one transfer a bird’s intention, namely to create a maximum of structural stability with a minimum of material, to a PP seat shell? By perforating the surface at places where the stability of the shell can thus be increased and where it makes sense not only from a visual but also from a functional point of view – at the sides. In short: the holes are positioned such that they become inviting recessed grips to put your hands in when you want to pull the chair forward or grasp it from behind in order to place it somewhere else. At the ‚T.NO.1‘ table for instance (designed by Todd Bracher) which looks like its ideal partner. ‚RIN‘ is launched with a black or white PP shell on a centre column (polished steel) with four outriggers (polished aluminium); it is offered with an 8 mm thick textile or leather-covered padding.
