Designfestival in Leipzig

Zum sechsten Mal finden in Leipzig die Designers‘ Open statt. Das Festival durchzieht vom 29. bis 31. Oktober mit Messe, Verkauf und Rahmenprogramm die gesamte Innenstadt. Erstmalig wird in diesem Jahr die Veranstaltung in die beiden Bereiche ‚Industry‘ und ‚Market‘ unterteilt, um den Besuchern bessere Orientierung zu bieten. Ersterer richtet sich an Fachbesucher und zeigt Designstudien sowie Prototypen aus den Bereichen Industrie-, Kommunikations- und Interiordesign, letzterer an den Einzelhandel und den Endverbraucher und zeigt überwiegend Produkte aus dem Interior- und Modedesign.

For the sixth time now, Designers‘ Open will be staged in Leipzig. From October 29 to 31, the festival will be all over the city centre, featuring a fair, sales activities and a fringe programme. This year the fair will be subdivided into the two fields of ‚Industry‘ and ‚Market‘ for the first time in order to make it easier for visitors to find their bearings. The first one is aimed at professional visitors. Design studies and prototypes from the areas of industrial, communication and interior design will be presented there. The latter one is targeted at retailers and end users and will primarily show products of interior and fashion design.

After having been educated at Zurich’s University of the Arts in the famous photography class of Hans Finsler, Alfred Willimann and Johannes Itten, René Burri soon created his own iconographic cosmos. He breaks loose from the cool aestheticism of New Objectivity and, already while studying, turns his attention to a kind of photography that places portraits and human beings in the centre. Recently the Zurich Museum of Design was able to buy more than 100 precious prints from Burri’s bundle of documents on Le Corbusier, which are now making up the core of the exhibition under the title of ‚René Burri – Vintage Prints – Le Corbusier‘. Burri – both artist and photographer – had taken up Le Corbusier’s track back when he was a student. Predominantly in 1959 and 1960, he realised innumerable portraits and architectural stories that were published worldwide. It’s René Burri’s typical view that has enabled him to create a unique photographic documentation in his capacity as visual chronicler, which it is worth while discovering.
