Exciting Togetherness
Seat and back shell of the multi-purpose chair are mounted on the frame without connectors
The interesting wave shape of the wood shells provokes curiosity; you are amazed at how pleasantly resilient they are, and you suspect that on the shells’ undersides you will find oblong holes at the fixed points. Nothing of the sort! Both shells are held in place without connectors, and they look like clipped on. Which is made possible by the turning motion at the frame tubing, necessary for deformation under load, both at the seat and the back.
An impossibility achieved by a Swedish doyen of design: throughout his life, Peter Karpf has taken these challenges as an incentive and got manufacturers interested in his solutions. Now he has re-invented the moulded-wood chair with ‚Pipe‘, which is also available as an easy chair and a bar stool. The patented shell construction is available with walnut or oak veneer, in a clear lacquer or a stained finish. A “simple” chair with a touch of esprit.
