Die Wally 80.4 ‚Shaka‘ ist eine 24-Meter-Yacht, die bei einer Breite von sechs Metern eine Kajüteneinteilung erlaubt, wie sie eigentlich nur bei rund sechs Meter längeren Booten üblich ist. Vorn die Eignerkabine, mittschiffs zwei Gästekabinen und hinter dem daran anschließenden Salon ein separater Crew-Bereich an Backbord, der Motorraum in der Mitte und die Kombüse auf der Steuerbordseite.

Als regattataugliche Fahrtenyacht schafft sie bis zu zehn Knoten und macht den Rudergänger dabei vergessen, dass er über 35 Tonnen an den Wind bringt. Der Segelkomfort der Wally-Yachten sucht seinesgleichen. Man kann das Boot zu zweit gut handhaben; dafür sorgen neben zahlreichen anderen Ausstattungsspezialitäten beispielsweise ein Bugruder, ein Neigekiel, eine Selbstwendefock-Hydraulik und vier motorisierte Winschen, bei denen alle verdeckt nach achtern geführten Leinen zusammenkommen. Aufgeräumt ist diese Wally-Yacht jedenfalls immer, und man hat nicht nur auf dem achteren Deck und in der Plicht Platz zum Laufen und Sonnenbaden, sondern ebenso auf dem Aufbau. Markantes Merkmal der 80er Yachten ist das durchgehende Oberlicht, das, komplett begehbar, beim Niedergang beginnt und bis kurz vor den Mast reicht. Von besonderer Bedeutung sind die Vorzüge des Neigekiels, dessen fast zehn Tonnen schwerer Bleitorpedo in vier Metern Tiefe das Boot fünf bis zehn Grad aufrechter und deutlich schneller segeln lässt.

Auch unter Deck, wie man sich leicht vorstellen kann, wirkt sich die reduzierte Krängung positiv aus. Und der Aufenthalt hier unten lohnt sich. Die Interieurs der ‚Shaka‘ atmen kühle Noblesse. Weiß an Decke und Wand herrscht vor. Grau findet sich am Boden und sonst in verschiedenen Abstufungen in der umlaufenden Fensternische, an Fensterrahmen, Türen und Polstern etc. Anthrazit setzt Akzente und markiert Funktionsbereiche. Das erwähnte Oberlichtband mittschiffs in der Bootsachse macht den Salon taghell. Außerdem gestattet es die Beobachtung von Mast, Baum und Segel und gibt damit Mannschaft und Gästen an Bord das Gefühl, immer ein Auge auf alles werfen zu können. Solitäre Oberlichter versorgen Schlaf- und Badbereiche von Eigner und Gästen. Die vor allem im Salon vorhandenen breiten, niedrigen Fenster in der Bordwand geben, wenn man sich leicht bückt, den Blick auf die Wasseroberfläche und den Horizont frei. Die Interieurs der Yacht, auch Bäder und Kombüse etc., stützen damit das Grundgefühl des Segelns, auf offener See zu sein – und zwar in und mit einem hochkomplexen, technischen Gerät, das bei allem Luxus und Komfort stets sachlich und funktional bleibt.

The Wally 80.4 ‚Shaka‘ is a 24-metre yacht that, despite its width of six metres, permits a cabin layout that is really only usual on boats that are around six metres longer. The owner’s cabin at the front, two guest cabins amidships and, behind the subsequent saloon, a separate crew area on the port side, the engine compartment in the centre and the galley on the starboard side.

As a sea-going yacht capable of taking part in regattas, it manages up to ten knots, causing the helmsman to forget that he is steering over 35 tons into the wind. The sailing comfort offered by Wally yachts is without comparison. The boat can be handled easily in a team of two; this is ensured not only by numerous other special equipment features, but also for example a bow rudder, a canting keel, self-reversing foresail hydraulics and four motorised winches where all ropes, latches and sheets guided aftward in a concealed fashion land. In any case, this Wally yacht is always tidy and there’s plenty of space to walk around and sunbathe not only on the aft deck and in the cockpit, but also on the superstructure. One distinct feature of 80s yachts is the continuous skylight which, completely accessible to foot traffic, begins at the hatchway ad extends up to shortly before the mast. Of particular importance are the advantages of the canting keel, whose almost ten-ton heavy lead torpedo at a depth of four metres keeps the boat more upright by five to ten degrees and allows it to sail at a considerably higher speed. Even under the deck, as you can easily imagine, the reduced heel has a positive impact. And it pays off to stay down here. The interiors of the ‚Shaka‘ breath cool noblesse. White prevails on the ceiling and walls. Floors are grey and otherwise in various graduations in the surrounding window niches, doors and upholsteries, etc. Anthracite sets the tone and marks function areas. The skylight strip amidships in the boat’s axis makes the saloon as bright as day. It also allows you to observe the mast, boom and sail, thus giving the screw and guests on board the feeling of always being able to cast an eye on everything. Solitary skylights supply light to the owner’s and guests‘ sleeping and bathroom areas. If you bend down slightly, the wide, low windows in the vessel’s side, especially those in the saloon, permit a view of the water’s surface and the horizon. The yacht’s interiors, including bathrooms and the galley, etc., therefore strength the basic feeling of sailing on the open seas – in and with a highly complex, technical piece of equipment that always remains matter of fact and functional despite all luxury and comfort.
