In Memory of the Future
Tub and washstand as quotes of times gone by
It is not so much a matter of conjuring up the olden days – no, we are talking here about the aesthetic qualities of historic bathroom equipment that has shaken off the constraints of former processing procedures and now combines, thanks to modern materials, contemporary luxury with recalled beauty. For many years designers have occupied themselves with the form and character of old bath tubs. It’s hard to imagine the repertoire offered for contemporary bathroom planning without the free-standing bath tub dominating the room; it has successfully replaced the built-in tub at least in the upper-class segment. But apart from the antique-looking, heavy, solid “water tanks” made of wood, stone, concrete or mineral composite, there are thin-walled tubs that cast a very special spell. The ‚Ottocento‘ range is made of Cristalplant and overcomes the somewhat brittle charm of classical steel enamel. True, the lines and contours of the series remind us of those objects supported by lions‘ feet, but the new models are warmer in direct contact with the body and have a seemingly softer feel.
