‚Geo Art‘ is on the lookout for new forms for old carpets.15 individual carpets of different geometries depicting parts of original patterns are the starting point. This may be at a scale of 1:1 or else in an enlarged or smaller form. The pieces of the set play with traditional models from China, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Turkey and Turkmenistan, and they are hand-knotted in these countries using typical techniques and materials like wool or silk (100 knots/inch), and those responsible for the projects emphasise that fair-trade conventions are kept to. The post-modern approach is interesting. Tearing apart is followed by piecing together again in a new context. After that the carpets are knotted together piece by piece, and from the pattern book of cultures a net with a personal touch evolves. An inspiring puzzle that continues inventing itself again and again.
