Rigid or Flexible
Steel tubing as an expressive constructive element
The tables tell the story of a personal passion. It is not by chance that the chrome-steel frame – peeping through the cut-out sections in the multiplex top (‚Bonze‘) – was inspired by the legendary ‚Butterfly‘ lounge chair (1938, Jorge Ferrari-Hardoy, Juan Kurchan and Antonio Bonet for Knoll). French architect and designer Vincent Gallix has for years explored the ins and outs of the manifold constructive possibilities and the spatial expressiveness of that fascinatingly simple supporting structure consisting of bent tubes, trying it out on table-top supports, cloak racks, luminaires. By doing so, he refined his paragon, disassembling it and creating a flexible folding frame (‚Flexobon‘), its principle drawing on linked-up tent poles. The ‚Spriggy Cross‘ model demonstrates convincingly how easy it is to handle this frame.
