Material Transfer
Associations with corrugated iron are wrong: this innovative composite material is a plastic and soft to the touch.
It’s soft and lukewarm: the corrugated headboard with its point-elastic, thin-walled shell of roto-moulded liquid polymer is a surprising feature. Inside it has a PU foam core and a reinforcing structure with docking points for the bed frame. The slightly resilient reaction to the touch reminds Marc Sadler of a kind of mattress. The designer, who was born in Innsbruck in 1946, has French nationality and is now working in Milan, has for quite some time had a penchant for this material, which was originally developed for the motorcycle industry. He likes to work with plastics, and the sturdiness, elasticity and softness of this material has inspired him to design whirlpools and shower trays. ‚Vague‘ is currently offered only with a noble high-gloss lacquered surface, but work is already in progress on more reasonably priced alternatives using solid-coloured plastics.
