… elastic
Fabrics make the furniture. Knitted stretch fabrics are not only revolutionising upholstery techniques but also influence furniture design. Otherwise the uneven surface of the ‚Panna Chair‘, for instance, created by Japanese designer Tokujin Yoshioka for Moroso would look different. Or it would have needed more supporting seams resulting in a higher price. The extreme stretch effect is not due to elastic yarns but to the knitting technique. Which is a well-guarded secret of the knitted-fabric collection of wool and Trevira, developed under the brand name of ‚Stretch Textiles‘. In line with their construction and (jacquard) technique, plain knitted fabrics, knitted velours and 3D fabrics are offered for the contract and the home area. They may be used both for furniture or for purely decorative or acoustic purposes. Target groups are architects, designers, furniture manufacturers and the fabric trade. The potential of highly elastic knitted fabrics has not yet been fully exhausted.
