The Résumé
Three famous designs provoke a fourth one
What would happen if one were to succeed in uniting the advantages of three masterpieces in one single new masterpiece? Starck and Quitllet were wise enough, to implement this demand at a graphic and less complex level. They occupied themselves most of all with the shell contours of three of the most famous chairs of the last century or, put otherwise, with the central projections of these contours. By adding all three contours this would theoretically and quasi automatically have led to a new masterful chair on the basis of a new, combined supporting structure. But it was not as simple as that; the demand to make ‚Masters‘ a model that quotes other products but is a design all of its own at one and the same time claim necessitated sensitive work on the expressive lines. Thus a plastic chair made of polycarbonate came into being that does credit to its paragons, the designers and the manufacturer.
