Telephone wire baskets
‘Wirework’ is a self-help initiative of mostly women weavers producing baskets, who live in the rural area of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. Unique handmade pieces of art, these baskets are woven from remnants of pure copper wire, insulated coloured wire – as well as black and white telephone wire. Each basket is a symbol of creativity, enthusiasm and pride, produced by a sustainable community under fair conditions.
