Wonderland sees itself as an international platform for architecture. The initial idea that sparked it all off was a travelling exhibition of the same name that toured several countries between 2004 and 2006. 99 teams of architects from nine countries participated. The initiative acts as an intermediary between young creative professionals and clients from municipalities and private enterprises. As a first tangible commission a building-development model was materialised in the south-east of Vienna on the erstwhile Aspern airfield. Also the second phase of Wonderland, planned for 2008 to 2011, will carry on the dominant principle of international exchange. In March a project will be staged in Wels (Upper Austria) in the context of festivities taking place in Linz as European Capital of Culture 09. The motto will be “What you really need”. Another one is to follow in Tiflis in the summer where the reconstruction of an archaeological park will be on the agenda.
