Practical Gift Ideas
13 students at the Burg Giebichenstein college of art and design evolved prototypes and designs fit for batch production for porcelain manufacturer Kahla under the leitmotif of ‚Functional Gifts‘. Over and above that, each of the students drew up a product and communications concept. All relevant work was done in the college workshops during the winter semester of 2007/08. The term ‚Functional Gifts‘ denotes small, flexible sets and single objects which optimise an existing functional principle or combine several functions, or help in the kitchen or other areas of life, functioning not as fashionable trendsetters but as practical helpers or, if need be, as gifts. The company’s express wish was that existing Kahla ranges should be adapted in the process.
