Building on the Waterfront
For years water has been an important topic in architecture, and the revitalisation of urben “waterfronts“ has been a worldwide trend. Over and above that, architecture has to react to the increasing danger of floods. The authoress draws up a typology of building by the water and documents 22 international examples, arranged according to possible locations by a river, a lake or the sea. She also explores whether the relevant design is ecologically sustainable as far as the key criterion of the location, i.e. water, is concerned.
