On Hoffmann’s Tracks
Josef Hoffmann is regarded as a pioneer of modernity and the most important protagonist of artistic work in Vienna around the turn of the century. The handy tome focuses on Hoffmann’s birthplace, which has housed a museum since 2005. The house is documented in a comprehensive essay, which covers its development and its importance to Josef Hoffmann’s work. The book is also conceived as an architectural guide to Hoffmann’s most important and still surviving and accessible buildings in Central Europe, completely presented here for the first time. Short texts, accompanied by photographs, characterise the buildings and their interiors. A bibliography rounds off the volume, and directions on how to find the locations will come in handy.
